Artwork by Calvin Nicholls
Artwork by Calvin Nicholls
Here on this artist website, I've gained the interest of paper zoo and how you are able to incorporate the designs of animals and then somehow it creates a very decent paper sculpture. My theme for making the body of work is essentially dedicated to animals and how they act in their natural environment. This artist is highly dedicated towards his time, patience, and well-lit sheets of paper. It was also stated that he makes these sculptures in the honor of advertising campaigns, institutions and galleries. In terms of materials, he has been making sculptures out of wooden and metal tools. I find it really interesting how this artists has a lot of values and expectations of his artwork. He doesn't only want his artwork to turn out outstanding but he also focuses a lot on the focus of an artwork. Calvin examines the interaction of light and shadows. He also has been setting up studio lights to enhance the results of his artwork. In my artwork, i have used similar ideas such as using a cardboard. The cardboard has helped me realize the ideas behind nature such as bark and trees, and therefore it has helped me cut out the pieces in order to make the sculpture i wish of.
Jeremy kool; 3D ORIGAMI
Jeremy is a 3D artist and graphic designer in Melbourne, Australia. He uses technology and digital tools to create actual hand folded paper. One of his major ideas for his artwork was essentially composed of cardboard and i have seen that he has been using it to make a deer.
Elena Roche; fine art
- This artist was one of my important resources in order for me to initiate the body of work.
- She has been creating paintings based on nature of rural beauty. Her goal is to create and somehow promote goodness and she highly believes that art is able to visualize her beauty but in a materialistic way. She also states her experiences in life and its her path in life as to how she will follow it.
- She mentions that the idea of goodness and beauty helps her in life but it also is reflected upon her paintings of landscapes and nature in general. She has been making these paintings for people's homes and offices.
- The idea of portraits being placed at home or any other place indoors helps establish morals of peace, ethics and love. People usually set paintings in their homes to kind of reflect off the beauty which exists in life and this is one of the factors i believed that my idea for the body of work is suitable.

This website is the kind of buying and selling ones. It has been categorized into different sects of artistic materials which come in handy. This website also relates to interior designs and how decorations exist indoors. I have been focusing more on wall decorations since i have been planning to create a flat-like decor. I believe that my idea of using a cardboard can be incorporated as an actual wall sculpture. My idea is to create something realistic yet it should be similar to a portrait.
Cardboard Animal Sculptures:
This website, or the ideas which belong to this website are derived by an artist, whose name is Laurence Vallieres, from Montreal.
- She makes outstanding sculptures which is made by layering cutouts found from cardboard boxes. She states, "I sculpt monkeys, elephants and rhinoceroses, thinking about their human correspondents or the ideologies they represent" Here in this quote by her, i can clearly understand that her sculptures are quiet captivating and she uses cardboard very effectively. I can see through her artwork that she has spent a lot of time and there is a lot of progress into her work. The effort she put in is significant and i believe that her ideas evoke the love of nature and animals. Her themes is slightly similar to mine as well. I enjoy learning about nature, and how she uses cardboard to emphasize its boldness and goodness in her work. She even says that cardboard is a great material since you can do anything with it. She says that for her she is working with nature in 2 ways. Apparently she is basically working from trash. Her inspirations and passion has helped me come up with my idea and i have explored a lot through her images. I have gained a lot of knowledge from her artworks overall.

D-Torso; artwork industry
T-Dorso is a company where it makes paperboard mannequins. There are various of artists which are Incorporated within this idea such as for animals and how animal packages are quiet common in interior decor. there's also animals hangers as they are very eye-catching decorations. They made these out of cardboard and properly cut shaped and sharped pieces. I used a lot of their techniques to help me build the body of work which i made or was planning on making. I love how this website gave me an idea of how i can make my cardboard pieces and how there are various sculptures already incorporating these pieces. My theme of nature and animals are highly significant when it comes to building a sculpture regarding the world and the environment around us.
The outcomes of the work
Mosaic art
Since my idea was relevant to animals and nature, i have thought of incorporating various techniques of tools in order to create my artwork. Here, i have decided to incorporate such ideas which will creatively develop an idea from images. Therefore, i have researched many eras which involve the use of mosaic and i examined the various ways colors, patterns and textures being used. In this case, i really loved the idea of crayons and how they have the ability to be crushed and broken into chunks of pieces, also even melted. Due to this, I have created a step-by step process of creating a body of work which is composed of an idea, most relevant to the concept of creating mosaic art. In this case, i have used a bunch of pieces of crayon shavings, in order to create the art that I've decided to make my design with. In this artwork, i have decided to incorporate various colors and patterns just to finalize the concept of my work. While working with the deals of zodiac symbols, I have decided to use the shapes and colors which best represent them. Of course my ideas have suited the meaning and purpose of my assignment, i had to do some though research which helped with the ideas in process. To sum up, there were 8 artists which were used as my inspirations for creating this body of work.
1. Cherchi by magda busetto:
- Here in this image, it is created by Magda and how she uses aboriginal art and how it has inspired her. Aboriginal art and symbolism which is relevant to it are basically expressing her creativity through the medium of mosaics.
Renaissance MOSAIC by robert thomas
Robert incorporates various themes in his work. His work is also displayed as it involves craftsmanship while using objects to visually please it for daily use. He has been highly inspired by the aesthetics, and techniques applied to fine art. The creativity of the Renaissance arts highly speaks of the uses of natural materials such as tufa, terra cotta, weathered stones. Artisans of this era have focused a lot on architecture, and even the framework of both traditional and modern materials. He mentioned that most of his mosaics were dedicated to rocaille and pebble mosaic. Rocaillle is basically a system of decorating and derived from rock-work and even including shells with natural materials. This visualizes concepts towards hangings.
